History of Greenwood
The Greenwood neighborhood in Brooklyn was one of the sites of the pivotal Battle of Brooklyn in August 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Greenwood’s waterfront location allowed for the creation and development of a thriving industrial and trade economy.
In recent years, Greenwood, like many other Brooklyn neighborhoods, has grown. Greenwood is now home to an increasing residential community, as well as a growing commercial community. Greenwood is also home to a historic cemetary, Greenwood Cemetary. It is a beautiful place to walk through on a sunny day. They also have guided trolly tours if you would rather sit back and enjoy.
